Printmaking: Foam Fish Prints
Grade Level: Elementary K-6
Title: Foam Fish Prints
Topic or Main Idea: Students will learn about Japanese Gyotaku (Fish) prints, then create their own prints using foam plates.
Objectives: Students will learn how to make a relief print using a foam plate. Students will learn the vocabulary of printmaking.
Standards Used: 2.6 Create an original work of art emphasizing rhythm and movement, using a selected printing process.
Materials: White paper, foam plates (purchased through Blick), pencils, brayers, water based printing ink, bench hooks or inking plates, paper towels.
Vocabulary: Print, brayer, relief print, edition, bench hook, Gyotaku.
Federal Junior Duck Stamp Drawing
Grade Level: Elementary 1st-6th
Title of Lesson: Federal Junior Duck Stamp Drawing
Topic/ Main Idea: Students create an original drawing of a duck to be entered in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition.
Objectives: (1) Students will learn about a selected species of waterfowl and use that knowledge to create a drawing of that species in its natural habitat.
(2) Students will learn how to draw a duck or other waterfowl using basic shapes.
(3) Students will learn how to use oil pastel and watercolor paints to successfully create their finished artwork.
Standards Used: 2.2 Students demonstrate beginning skill in the use of art media, such as oil pastels, watercolor, and tempera.
Materials: 80lb white drawing paper, oil pastel sets, Crayola 8 color watercolor sets, water cups/ containers, paper towels, pencil, Federal Junior Duck Stamp reference materials, scrap paper for practice.
